Often bypassed by visitors heading to the beaches and mountains, Majorca's capital is a cultural and historical delight not to be missed.
Palma is dominated by the Gothic Roman cathedral, built on the site of a pre-existing Arab Mosque and surrounded by the winding streets of the former Roman citadel. With a height of 44 metres, the cathedral is home to one of the world's highest naves, taller than that found in Paris' Notre Dame.
The old town is full of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops, with some of Majorca's finest cuisine and best shops at your feet. For a real treat, visit the Abaco Bar at midnight and enjoy a cocktail in tropical surroundings as flower petals are dropped from the central mezzanine.
Palma's seafront is packed with yachts and is lined by the Paseo Maritimo, a popular route for morning strolls and pre-dinner walks. Many hotels and restaurants are situated on the Paseo, offering fantastic views of the marina and the Bay of Palma beyond.
