Tenerife for families

With its balmy temperatures all year round, beautiful black and gold sand beaches, moon-scape scenery, plenty of opportunities to see the Milky Way and loads of fun activities to do with kids… it should come as no surprise that Tenerife ranks as one of Spain’s most family-friendly holiday spots. Plus, many of our hotels feature kid’s clubs and dedicated shallow swimming areas for little ones.

We’ve selected the top family-friendly activities on the island, which are guaranteed to thrill and excite parents just as much as kids:

Explore Teide National Park

Exploring Mount Teide, the world’s third-largest volcano and Spain’s highest peak, is a unique expedition that travellers of all sizes should experience. Ride the cable car up to an altitude of 3500 metres for spectacular vistas of Tenerife and some of the neighbouring islands. Other areas of great interest include Roques de García, a bizarre landscape packed with unique lava formations, and the volcanic craters covering the subsidiary peak of Pico Viejo.

We recommend joining an organised tour and wearing warm clothes, since temperatures atop the mountain are lower than at the coast.

Spot whales and dolphins

Set aside some time to enjoy the sea as Tenerife is Europe’s premier whale and dolphin watching location. Set sail on the Atlantic for an unforgettable boat trip, during which you are almost guaranteed to spot Whales and Dolphins in their natural environment, tap into the ocean sounds and, depending on the tour you choose, snorkel in crystal waters.

The departure points for sighting excursions are Puerto Colón and Los Cristianos, south Tenerife, which is very handy as some of our accommodation options are located right there. Another fabulous option is to venture around the coast to Los Gigantes and discover the impressive cliff that gives its name to this natural monument.

Siam Water Park

Siam Park, often dubbed as Tenerife’s Water Kingdom, has already made a name for itself as the best water park in the world. Set against a backdrop of spectacular Thai architecture, the whole family is in for an unforgettable adventure. From lazy rivers to free-fall slides for thrill-seekers, and from a children’s aquatic playground to Coco Beach, with its enormous wave pool and white beach to unwind with smaller children.

Stargaze at The Teide Observatory

Tenerife is a popular destination among astronomers. Light pollution is minimal, allowing for stunning views of the Milky Way and even the smallest stars on clear nights. So, if you’re travelling with teenagers that are into the wonders of outer space, a visit to the observatory combined with a stargazing session, would be an unforgettable memory for the whole family and a fantastic way to wrap up the day. Monkey Park

Walk among animals and feed them in their natural habitat at Monkey Park, the smallest zoo in the world, yet perfectly formed. Pass a fun and educational hour or two here with the family and observe a wonderful collection of monkeys, parrots, exotic birds and species of reptiles. It’s even possible to purchase some fresh vegetables on site and get involved with feeding time. Read more.

Hit the beach

No trip to Tenerife is complete without going to the beach. The island is most known for its spectacular volcanic black sand beaches, but there’s also loads of common golden sands to enjoy.

Most of the beaches in South of Tenerife are very family-friendly with plenty of nearby facilities and shallow waters for paddling. San Juan Beach (black sand), Playa del Duque, Fañabe Beach, Puerto Colón Beach and Playa Las Vistas are just a few of them.

Banana rides, bouncy castles, scuba diving, dolphins and whales boat tours, and much more await the entire family at these beaches.
